when we started this new home, we both vowed not to get too caught up in getting everything done now but instead to relax a bit and enjoy the on-going, slow progress of finishing little projects over time and years. to let the process be at least 1/2 the enjoyment. to figure things out as we go and try to learn by doing it together. i admit, somedays i do feel like i just want it done now. then i take a step back as i'm enjoying a saturday afternoon bike ride - or a limeade on our temparary front patio with my love as vesper has a blast in a old bucket filled with water and plays in our dirt-pile yard...and realize once again that for us, it's the simple things, the little unexpected, unplanned moments, not necessarily just the finished product, that really make life sweet. that being said...i am glad that a little progess is being made. we made 3 big raised garden boxes in the backyard that we've shared with our neighbors and continue to reap the harvest. we got a friend to help us with some rammed-earth privacy-walls in the front and backyard. we got a pile of good dirt saturday and some grass picked-up and a few plants bought. laying sod and planting and deck and step builiding all to come. i have to say that i just feel like a day is that much better when i have dirt under my fingernails, vesper has eaten at least a couple handfuls of dirt, and my man comes in dirt-covered for a cool drink and a kiss. here's to the process of making a house a home. here's to progress being made.
